If you want to ADD 12 oz./340 grams. of Soilent Green to your FISH ORDER, please use this “buy it now” option.  This will add it to your fish invoice, and there will be no additional shipping charges when added to your fish shipment.   I don’t have another way implemented to add food to your order, so will be using this method for now.

If you want to JUST BUY FOOD, please use the link on the homepage, which adds $6.80 to cover USPS Priority Shipping.

I have been advocating the use of moist food for years.  Moist food moves more easily through the digestive tract, results in more efficient nutrient assimilation, and also minimizes balance/buoyancy problems many fish have after eating dry food.  Unfortunately, most goldfish foods have no moisture content at all.   That’s because, with the exception of frozen foods, others would spoil and have no shelf-life.  So, most goldfish food is “dry as a bone”, and ultimately not the best for the fish, even if the ingredients are high quality.   Our fish farmers raise the goldfish on moist food, so it makes no sense to switch them to a dry diet after they are imported.  I’ve addressed this issue for years by “hydrating” all of the pellets we’ve fed.  This involved a slow process of introducing moisture and refrigerating pellets to make sure they were soft throughout, and not just wetted on the outside.   This made them like little meatballs, but they still held together and didn’t fall apart in the tank.  Well, I have quit messing around with pellets!  That’s because after months of trials, and many conversations with fellow hobbyists for over a year, I feel that Soilent Green is the best solution for the main staple in the Goldfish diet.  I used to make my own gel food, but it was time consuming, messy, and I never felt confident that the mix of ingredients was optimal.  Soilent Green solves these issues with an easy to make product.   Brought to a boil in a non-stick pan, and poured onto a non-stick cookie sheet, it gels quickly with little to no clean up.  Anything left in the pan gels up and peels right off.  Once a batch is made, I chop it up on a cutting board into bite size pieces and store in the fridge.  I am actually making pounds of it every other day, but the average hobbyist should be able to make a small batch every week or two, spending less than 15 minutes to do so.

I’ve always said that I’d rather concentrate on the fish, and not get into selling products or food.   That was mostly because I never felt enough confidence in any food that I wanted to promote or represent it.  The other reason is the nature of internet commerce.  Huge companies can offer some retail products for less than I can even get them wholesale.  Being a small business, it’s hard to compete, and I simply wasn’t going to try to.  I’d have to buy, stock, sell, and ship hundreds of pounds of food just to make a tiny profit.  Again, it made sense to just focus on the fish, especially since that takes a huge amount of time already, and because goldfish is what Dandy Orandas does best.  : )

All of that being said, I have now decided to offer this Repashy Soilent Green.  After years of being asked about food, and seeing many people struggle with food related issues, I think this is a great solution.  Repashy has high quality ingredients, plus the moisture that I’ve always advocated, and we’ve seen great results using it.   Fish are active, healthy, with vibrant color and none of the goofy post-feeding buoyancy issues seen with dry foods.  Repashy also has a good relationship with its retailers, and sets MAP pricing for their products.  This is Minimum Advertised Pricing, which keeps huge sellers from undercutting small business.   So, you should see similar pricing no matter what the source, leaving you to support good merchants instead of buying simply based on price.

SHIPPING INFO.  If you are getting fish, a 340 gram bag can be added to your shipment for no additional shipping cost.  If you are just getting food, then shipping will be via USPS priority mail, and will be $6.80, for a total of $26.79 delivered.  (Please note if just getting food, please use the link on the homepage for food.)

NET WEIGHT 340 GRAMS  (makes approximately 4 times the amount once gelled, mixed at 1 part powder/3 parts water)

I’ve had several requests for these, so here you go…  $100 Gift Certificate that can be used for any purchase from Dandy Orandas during the year 2017.  This makes a great gift for any goldfish lover, and is also a way to save some money as it is priced below face-value.  (please note that my auction/invoicing system is set up for automating shipping charges for fish.  If you just get a certificate, I will have to manually remove the ship charges, so don’t checkout until that’s done.  Feel free to contact me with any questions.  Gift Certificate images will be emailed to winners, so that you can simply print your own with no delay.  Gift Certificates are valid for the whole year of 2017.)

I imported some of these over 8 years ago, and found them to be amazing fish.  Very friendly , SUPER responsive and ACTIVE, and extremely hardy and robust.   They were called “black comets”, but I understood them to be a hybrid of sorts.  I verified that they are a koi/comet hybrid when I visited China.  I also discovered that they’ve become extremely popular in the European market.  The creator of this fish has finally given it a proper name…. Ebony scissortail.  These can get large showy broad tails on them as they grow, but will not get nearly as big as Koi.  I have some that are about 9 years old, and they are about 18 inches with huge tails.  Very unique and interesting fish, and much more hardy than most fancies.  Photos don’t do them justice.  This one shows nice tail development and was spawned spring of 2015.

Very nice telescope comet.  These hard to find fish have an incredible rich yellow color that’s not usually seen on goldfish.  I’ve also come to think that “comet” is not the right word for these, as they are much more like other fancies, with lots more personality than regular comets.  Super friendly and responsive.
