GOLDFISH ACROSS AMERICA TOUR!!!

Dandy Orandas has customers in every state of the USA. I know some quite well and consider many of you to be friends at this point. I've had an idea for nearly 20 years that it would be great to actually meet many of you in person someday. I've always had fish here though, so it's been nearly impossible to leave, even for a day. The decision to forego imports due to tariffs provides the freedom to finally make my idea happen.

I plan on doing a tour of the Southern Half of the USA, starting in late February. That will include stops at various locations to talk goldfish, with video interviews of people, their setups, their fish, etc.. I already have several interesting places and people lined up, but am inviting everyone out there to possibly be a part of the tour. There is still a lot of planning ...exact locations, timing, etc., but I hope to piece those details together in the upcoming weeks.

The pic below is a rough sketch of my tentative route. It is not exact, and there will likely be some deviation, but I don't plan on being in the north half of the USA at this time.

Anyway, if you would be interested in having me stop by your area, I'd love to see everyone I can during this tour. And, you don't have to be an old customer...I hope to meet lots of new people too! If interested and close to my route, please email me with some basic info....

I have been advocating the use ofÂ moist foodÂ for years. Â Moist food moves more easily through the digestive tract, results in more efficient nutrient assimilation, and also minimizes balance/buoyancy problems many fish have after eating dry food. Â Unfortunately, most goldfish foods have no moisture content at all. Â Thatâ€™s because, with the exception of frozen foods, others would spoil and have no shelf-life. Â So, most goldfish food is â€œdry as a boneâ€, and ultimately not the best for the fish, even if the ingredients are high quality. Â Our fish farmers raise the goldfish on moist food, so it makes no sense to switch them to a dry diet after they are imported. Â Weâ€™ve addressed this issue for years by â€œhydratingâ€ all of the pellets weâ€™ve fed. Â This involved a slow process of introducing moisture and refrigerating pellets to make sure they were soft throughout, and not just wetted on the outside. Â This made them like little meatballs, but they still held together and didnâ€™t fall apart in the tank. Â Well, we have quit messing around with pellets! Â Thatâ€™s because after months of trials, and many conversations with fellow hobbyists for over a year, we feel that Soilent Green is the best solution for the main staple in the Goldfish diet. Â I used to make my own gel food, but it was time consuming, messy, and I never felt confident that the mix of ingredients was optimal. Â Soilent Green solves these issues with an easy to make product. Â Brought to a boil in a non-stick pan, and poured onto a non-stick cookie sheet, it gels quickly with little to no clean up. Â Anything left in the pan gels up and peels right off. Â Once a batch is made, we chop it up on a cutting board into bite size pieces and store in the fridge. Â We are actually making pounds of it every other day, but the average hobbyist should be able to make a small batch every week or two, spending less than 15 minutes to do so.

Iâ€™ve always said that Iâ€™d rather concentrate on the fish, and not get into selling products or food. Â That was mostly because I never felt enough confidence in any food that I wanted to promote or represent it. Â The other reason is the nature of internet commerce. Â Huge companies can offer some retail products for less than I can even get them wholesale. Â Being a small business, itâ€™s hard to compete, and I simply wasnâ€™t going to try to. Â Iâ€™d have to buy, stock, sell, and ship hundreds of pounds of food just to make a thousand dollars. Â Again, it made sense to just focus on the fish, especially since that takes a huge amount of time already, and because goldfish is what Dandy Orandas does best. Â : )

All of that being said, I have now decided to offer this Repashy Soilent Green. DIRECTIONS: To prepare one cup of product, add Â¼ cup of powder into Â¾ cup of cold water and stir until blended. Microwave until it starts to boil (typically 2-3 minutes), remove and stir. Alternatively, bring water to a boil on stove, remove from heat, and stir in powder. Immediately pour into a storage container or mould, and let sit at room temp until firm. The finished gel can be cut into cubes, shredded, or used as a whole slab. Whatever is not used immediately should be treated as fresh food. It can be stored sealed in refrigerator for up to two weeks, and in freezer for up to six months. To adjust firmness of gel, use more or less water as desired.
